PRESQUE VU
ANTONIO LOPEZ III
CURATED BY AGOSTO CUELLAR
SAT. August 10, 2013
Opening 6-9PM
Artist Talk 7:30PM

This collection of pieces deals with mainly two things; interjections and appropriation. The resulting collage of ideas creates new scenarios with their own tensions and narratives.
I became interested in interjections because they are part of a non-language; like in-between words. Rather than express solid ideas like regular words, they communicate emotions. Reading about interjections had me preoccupied with half-formed thoughts; with meaning that is left to be read between the lines.

The figures taken from different artworks range from the European Renaissance to just beyond the beginning of Modernism. The use of figures from different artworks expresses my interest in art history. These references to history try to answer the question of what one does with such a head full of facts after the exams are over.

These appropriated images coupled with the interjections create new cryptic narratives; new tensions through
re-contextualization.
